Kent Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging anyone thinking of having a bonfire to consider a safer, more environmentally friendly way to dispose of waste through the green waste collection or take it to your local recycling centre. However, if you do light a bonfire the advice is to take extra care and never use petrol, barbecue lighting fluids or other accelerants on them. Also, never leave any fire unattended and if the bonfire gets out of control, never try to tackle it yourself, always call the fire service.

Who are the vandals damaging our playgrounds?

The parish is suffering repeated vandalism at playgrounds.

Over the last two nights the site at Piquets where new equipment is being installed has been broken into and machinery badly damaged. This will now delay installation of the new play equipment as well as causing considerable trouble and expense for the contractor.

Last week on three occasions safety fencing at Charing Heath where new equipment is being installed was ripped open and equipment scattered leaving the site in a dangerous condition. A 9 year old boy cut his leg needing stitches.

Separately, a football goal in Westwell Leacon has also been damaged and is now unusable.

All these incidents have been reported to the police who are investigating.

This vandalism must stop. If it continues it will be more difficult to insure our playgrounds and therefore more difficult to maintain them.  So we are asking the community for help.

If anyone knows or suspects who the perpetrators are or has relevant information please inform the police on 101 quoting crime nos: ZY/30424/17 and ZY/30604/17.

Please ring 999 if you see any damage actually happening.

The display boards showing what is going on in the parish that were exhibited at the meetings held on 22nd to 26th September excited a lot of interest. For those who missed them, or who would like another chance to see them, they are now available here. We have put them into four files as they are rather large files to download.
